Registration of .nl domain names not possible 16-17 March 2010

March 16th, 2010

FYI; SIDN has announced a maintanance window starting on March-16 for 24 hours.

“On 17 March 2010, SIDN is implementing a new version of its domain registration system (DRS). A 24-hour maintenance window is scheduled for migration to the new system, as follows:

Start: Tuesday 16 March 2010, 12.00 hours (CET)
End: Wednesday 17 March 2010, 12.00 hours (CET)

Registrations not possible
Please note that, during the maintenance window, your registrar will not be able to register .nl domain names or update existing registrations.

Registrations and updates will be possible again from noon on 17 March.

Brief interruptions to (Who)Is service
The Is and Whois services – the tools for checking the availability of domain names and looking up details of existing registrations – will remain available during the maintenance window. However, there may be some brief service interruptions. The DNS check service will remain available as usual.

Website updates
When the new registration system is introduced, many of SIDN’s procedures, forms and other documents will be changing as well. Numerous updates will therefore be made to the content of the website during the maintenance window, but the site will remain accessible.”

Several shared hostingaccounts unavailable

September 29th, 2009

12:30

Part of our shared hostingplatform has become unreachable. We are investigating the issue and will keep you updated.

Update 13:29

We have determined the cause of this unavailability; a complete hardware mallfunction of one of our core servers on which data of many shared hostingaccounts is stored. We have started a recovery process using the latest available backup.

Update 15:00

Recovery is almost complete (around 80-90%). We hope to have all services up and running again shortly.

Update 15:30

Recovery is complete. We are currently in the process of reconfiguring services. During this process services should be coming up slowly, but it can take a while before every account is fully operational again.

Update 16:00

All services (email databases and websites) are available again. We therefore consider this problem as solved (although we are still running some tests). Please let us know if you experience any more problems.

Apache webserver attack countermeasures

June 22nd, 2009

Since this weekend, additional countermeasures are active against a newly released attack tool that blocks requests to the Apache webserver. Attackers that try to use this tool are automatically blocked, and can no longer access the webserver. All managed servers received this update automatically.

Although false positives are unlikely, let us know if you encounter any issues.

OS/PHP/MySQL upgrades (shared and managed servers)

April 21st, 2009

In the next few months we will upgrade the operating system and some important software on all servers (of course we always keep the software on our servers up-to-date but that is limited to security updates so that everything keeps working as it should). Although there quite a few version changes, you can expect that everything will work as it should (but exceptions are possible!).

Best thing of course is that new versions means new functionality :)

Downtime during the upgrades (which of course we perform when normal people sleep ;) ) will be 5-15 minutes.

Most important changes:
- Apache 2.2.3 upgraded to Apache 2.2.9
- MySQL 5.0.32 upgraded to MySQL 5.0.51a;
- PHP 5.2.0 upgraded to PHP 5.2.6

If you have a shared web hosting package you will receive an email about the date we perform the upgrade. If you have a Managed Virtual Server or Dedicated Managed Server we will contact you by email.

Update: The shared hosting platform will be upgraded in the night of Friday on Saturday (May 30th).
