Several shared hostingaccounts unavailable

September 29th, 2009

12:30

Part of our shared hostingplatform has become unreachable. We are investigating the issue and will keep you updated.

Update 13:29

We have determined the cause of this unavailability; a complete hardware mallfunction of one of our core servers on which data of many shared hostingaccounts is stored. We have started a recovery process using the latest available backup.

Update 15:00

Recovery is almost complete (around 80-90%). We hope to have all services up and running again shortly.

Update 15:30

Recovery is complete. We are currently in the process of reconfiguring services. During this process services should be coming up slowly, but it can take a while before every account is fully operational again.

Update 16:00

All services (email databases and websites) are available again. We therefore consider this problem as solved (although we are still running some tests). Please let us know if you experience any more problems.

Performance issue shared webhosting

July 4th, 2009

Several websites were slow to reach due to a traffic spike on one of our shared hosting servers. We just finished maintenance that should solve this problem. All services are now functioning as normal again.

Apache webserver attack countermeasures

June 22nd, 2009

Since this weekend, additional countermeasures are active against a newly released attack tool that blocks requests to the Apache webserver. Attackers that try to use this tool are automatically blocked, and can no longer access the webserver. All managed servers received this update automatically.

Although false positives are unlikely, let us know if you encounter any issues.

Maintenance Saturday night (June 20)

June 18th, 2009

Due to some kernel issues on our shared hosting platform, we will have to reboot several servers. This should not take more then a couple of minutes. During this maintenance your website and email will be inaccessible.

Update June 20 00:38: Maintenance has been completed. The total downtime was around 10 minutes.

OS/PHP/MySQL upgrades (shared and managed servers)

April 21st, 2009

In the next few months we will upgrade the operating system and some important software on all servers (of course we always keep the software on our servers up-to-date but that is limited to security updates so that everything keeps working as it should). Although there quite a few version changes, you can expect that everything will work as it should (but exceptions are possible!).

Best thing of course is that new versions means new functionality :)

Downtime during the upgrades (which of course we perform when normal people sleep ;) ) will be 5-15 minutes.

Most important changes:
- Apache 2.2.3 upgraded to Apache 2.2.9
- MySQL 5.0.32 upgraded to MySQL 5.0.51a;
- PHP 5.2.0 upgraded to PHP 5.2.6

If you have a shared web hosting package you will receive an email about the date we perform the upgrade. If you have a Managed Virtual Server or Dedicated Managed Server we will contact you by email.

Update: The shared hosting platform will be upgraded in the night of Friday on Saturday (May 30th).

No .nl registrations in the evening of January 9th, 2008

December 30th, 2008

[UPDATE: SIDN announced that the maintenance window is now completed at Jan-9, 2009 23:00]

FYI, SIDN (the .nl-registry) has scheduled a maintenance window, which has consequences for checking and registering domains during between the following times:

Start: 09-01-09 18:00 hrs (CET)
End: 09-01-09 24:00 hrs (CET)

* During the maintenance window, the following services will be
unavailable:

- E-mail (interface)
- (Registrar) Whois
- DRS4.3
- DNS-check

* Service implications:
During the maintenance window, it will not be possible to process
applications or requests. In contrast to the situation during other
maintenance windows, SIDN will not be able to take delivery of e-mail
during the specified period. Applications and requests submitted by
e-mail will NOT therefore be placed in a queue.

* Reason:
During this maintenance window, work will be carried out on the database
server hardware.
